The Belmond-Klemme volleyball team travelled to Emmetsburg for the first round of district volleyball Oct. 28. The Broncos had their work cut out for them facing a power offense.

Haley Beminio started the match with a kill before the E-Hawks went on a seven-point run. Tough serving gave B-K trouble and Emmetsburg pushed the lead to 14-4. Alaina Lyons went 2-2 serving and Beminio added another kill to the scoreboard, but the Broncos lost the first match 25-9.

The Broncos found a way to turn it around and gave the E-Hawks their own worries. Jennah Meyer started the match off with a block, followed by Madi Barrus’ kill down the line. B-K jumped to an early 4-2 lead. The Broncos continued to dominate as Lyons once again served well, going 4-4. Meyer added a kill to give B-K a larger lead, 7-3. Middle hitter Kenedie Gabrielson continued with back-to-back kills. Great hitting also came from Addison McMurray and Beminio giving B-K a 12-9 lead. Ashlynn Willms served 3-3 adding to the lead before Emmetsburg overtook the Broncos late. A nine-point run put the E-Hawks ahead 20-15. The Broncos battled up until the end, but came up short 25-20.

In the third set, B-K just couldn’t find the rhythm they had in the second match and fell behind early, 12-2. Tough serving continued to give B-K trouble as the Broncos’ season ended with a 25-8 loss.
