The Belmond-Klemme Bronco football team has already qualified for post-season play. The Iowa High School Athletic Association announced last week that every team will compete in the play-offs which start in mid-October.

The regular season will now last only seven weeks - from Aug. 27 to Oct. 9. Teams will have the option of playing between five and seven games; the first and second weeks of the season are now considered optional. Each team needs to make its own arrangements for those optional weeks. Class 1A teams will play the district schedule that has already been announced, only earlier. All Week 5 games have been moved up to Week 3, and the district schedule continues from there.

The Broncos are scheduled to play at West Hancock, against North Butler, at Southeast Valley and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, against Eagle Grove and Pocahontas, and at South Central Calhoun.

The IHSSA announced a six-week single elimination tournament starting Oct. 16 and runs through the state championship games in November. The association also said that teams will not be penalized with losses or forfeits if state, county or local health departments force teams to miss games due to Covid-19 cases.

B-K has until Aug. 17 to tell the IHSAA if the football team will compete this year. First practice can be held Monday, Aug. 10.
