After more than a week without competition, the Belmond-Klemme cross country teams ran at Garner Sept. 27. “It was actually pretty warm for distance running,” Coach Ethan Albertson said, “but our kids really ran hard.”
Isaac Swenson placed fifth in the 5K race. “Isaac ran a really smart race,” Albertson said. “He was in about ninth place at the one mile marker, and then worked his way up to fifth place overall. There was only one junior athlete in front of him.” Swenson ran a 18:32.
Bradan Gabrielson was the second Bronco boy to cross the finish line. He ran a 21:00.
“Senior Cohen Sifert had his best effort of the year,” Albertson said. Sifert finished in 27th place with a 21:19.
The other Bronco runners and their times and placements included: Aldo Martinez, 25:15, 54th; Dalton Clark, 26:52, 59th; Aaron Sepulveda, 30:53, 62nd; and Jakob Williams, 37:05, 65th.
“The Belmond senior girls trio of Lauren Crawford, Dora Bobadilla and Shea Sopher ran their best races of the year so far. The effort they are putting in is excellent,” Albertson said.
Sopher placed 26th with a 26:23 while Crawford was 43rd with a 28:42 and Bobadilla was 46th with a 30:14. Lillyann Aguilera finished in 45th with a 29:29.
