The Belmond-Klemme girls basketball team kicked off the season by hosting Bishop Garrigan Dec. 3.
The Golden Bears jumped to an early 12-0 lead before the Madi Barrus scored two points and Haley Beminio drained a free throw. Addison McMurray and Jennah Meyer each had two-point baskets in the first quarter before Molly Hartwig sank a buzzer-beater to bring the score to 18-9.
A quick offense in the second quarter by BG pushed the score to 38-13. Meyer pulled down two big boards and put up two baskets to bring the score closer; it was 48-17 at the half.
The Golden Bears took advantage of Bronco turnovers and went on a 12-0 run, pushing the score to 60-17. Beminio added another two-pointer, as did Meyer, to end the third quarter with the score 75-24.
The Broncos continued to play tough in the final period as McMurray collected two steals and four points to end the game with a final score 80-32.
Meyer led the team with nine rebounds and seven points. Beminio led all scorers with 13 points.
The Broncos traveled to Lake Mills Dc. 6 for the second conference match-up of the week.
Haley Beminio had the lone points in the first quarter as the Broncos trailed 14-4. The Broncos added a few more points in the second as Addison McMurray drained a three-pointer and scored on a quick layup. Beminio did her part with four rebounds in the first half followed by four more points. The Broncos trailed 30-13 heading into the half.
McMurray added a quick three-pointer at the start of the second half. Beminio continued to pull down big rebounds. A steal by McMurray who then layed up a basket brought the score to 38-22.
In the fourth quarter, Molly Hartwig added four points as the Broncos played a good final period against the Bulldogs. Madi Barrus hit a three-pointer, but the Broncos came up short, taking the loss 62-49.
McMurray left the game with 17 points as Beminio led the team with ten rebounds.
The Broncos played a cross-over game with the TIC East division against Central Springs Dec. 7, and the Broncos dominated the Panthers early.
Madi Barrus hit on opening three-pointer followed by a lay-up by Haley Beminio to pull B-K ahead 5-0. The Broncos continued the scoring trend with a three-pointer by Addison McMurray giving the Broncos a commanding 11-0 lead. Tough defense and steals by Beminio and Barrus helped the Broncos to a 19-1 lead.
The Bronco continued to dominate in the second quarter. Jennah Meyer grabbed two big rebounds and added two points. Outstanding defense by Beminio and Molly Hartwig helped control the scoreboard, as the Broncos took an even larger lead, 32-10, into the locker room.
In the second half, the Broncos continued to play tough defense and add big points. Beminio started the quarter with two points and five rebounds. Madi Barrus also helped with three steals. B-K held the lead, 41-23.
The Panthers gave the Broncos a little scare in the fourth as they came within four points before the Broncos took back the lead. Meyer was fouled twice and hit three of four free throws to help B-K hold on to the win, 49-39.
Meyer led all scoring with 14 points followed by Beminio with 13. Barrus led the team with four steals as Beminio led with nine rebounds.
