  The Belmond-Klemme softball team travelled to Algona June 13 to start the second round of conference play. The Broncos scored first in the third inning. Jennah Meyer hit a double to right field, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Ella Negrete to move Meyer into scoring position. Ashlynn Willms hit a single to bring in Meyer, followed by Molly Hartwig’s RBI double. The Broncos scored another run as Emilie Dougherty hit a single to the outfield that scored Hartwig to take the lead, 3-0. Garrigan scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to overtake the Broncos, 4-3. B-K remained scoreless as the Golden Bears added four more runs to close out the game 8-3.

  On the following night, the Broncos travelled to AGWSR to play a triangular. The first game was against Newman. The Knights jumped to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning, then added two more runs in the second and one more run in the third. The Broncos remained scoreless through five innings. The Knights finished the night scoring two runs in the fifth to end the game early, 10-0.

  In the night’s second game, the Broncos faced home team AGWSR. The Broncos jumped to an early 2 -0 lead in the first inning with Jennah Meyer and Allie Barrus scoring. In the top of the second, the Broncos scored four runs led by a singles by Aubrey Eckhoff and Meyer. A single by Ella Negrete scored Eckhoff from third. The scoring continued when Barrus had a two-RBI single, coming around to score on Ashlynn Willms’ hit to the shortstop. Pitcher Kaylen Morris had six strike-outs through the third, giving up only four hits on the night. B-K added runs in the third and fourth innings, claiming the 9-3 victory.

  The “game of the week” came June 15 as the Broncos hosted Lake Mills for the first time this year. The Bulldogs were currently second in the conference standings. B-K started off the first two innings with solid defense and pitching as Kaylen Morris retired four of the six batters on strikeouts. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Emilie Dougherty led off with a single, followed by Ava Negrete’s hit to the shortstop. Quinn Gabrielson had an hit that scored Dougherty to take the 1-0 lead. Outstanding defense by Molly Hartwig in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings held the Bulldogs scoreless. In the top of the seventh, LM scored on an error to tie the game at 1-1. The Broncos started the bottom of the seventh with a single by Ava Negrete. Aubrey Eckhoff followed with a bunt down the third base line to move Negrete into scoring position. Jennah Meyer hit a high pop fly to shortstop. The shortstop dropped the ball, recovered it, and threw the ball to third base to try to get the Broncos runner out. The ball was uncatchable, rolling into the Bulldog dugout, and Negrete advanced home to win the game 2-1.

  The Broncos last game of the week was in Eagle Grove June 17. The Broncos jumped to an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles scored two runs in the third and one run in the fourth to go up 4-1. B-K remained scoreless until the top of the sixth when the Broncos had six runs cross the plate. Ella Negrete led off with a walk, followed by Allie Barrus’ double. Ashlynn Willms, Emilie Dougherty and Ava Negrete each scored with the help of a Quinn Gabrielson single. The Broncos added one more run in the seventh to go up 8-4. In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles tied up the game, scoring four runs, and taking the game to extra innings. B-K had their opportunities, but came up short as the Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the eighth to win 9-8.
