The Bronco softball team had a busy week, capturing two wins along the way.

The Northwood-Kensett Vikings came to town May 28 looking for a victory, but came up short as the Broncos were ready to play. Maddison Dougherty took to the mound and held the Vikings scoreless heading into the fourth inning. The Broncos jumped on the scoreboard early with a lead-off walk by Madi Barrus, who then collected two stolen bases, eventually scoring on a single by Allie Barrus. Haley Beminio followed Barrus with a single and Allie Barrus came around to score, pushing the Broncos to a 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, Jennah Meyer and Allie Barrus scored off of a single by Beminio and B-K had a commanding 4-0 lead. The Vikings put a few runs on the board in the top of the fourth, but B-K answered in the fifth with another run. Allie Barrus started off the inning with a bunt single followed by two stolen bases. Beminio once again put the ball in play to score Barrus. A single by Taylor Grissom kept the Broncos alive, but Grissom was left stranded. The Broncos captured the win 5-4.

Maddison Dougherty had nine strike-outs on the night, as Allie Barrus led the team with two hits.

The Broncos came off a big win to face a ranked Newman team May 29. The Broncos had nothing to lose, but the tenth-ranked Knights didn’t come prepared to face off against the Broncos.

Newman jumped to an early 3-0 lead before the Broncos answered back, scoring three runs to start the game. A lead-off walk by Madi Barrus and single from Allie Barrus put both girls in scoring position. Barrus scored on a wild pitch as Beminio took first base on a play that forced Allie Barrus out at the plate. Beminio scored on a ground ball by Vada Negrete to even the score. The Knights collected only one more run as B-K’s defense and outstanding pitching by Dougherty made all the difference in the game. On the offensive side, the Broncos scored four more runs to claim the victory 7-4.
