The Belmond-Klemme girls hosted the first round of district basketball Feb. 15 against Eagle Grove.

  Haley Beminio was the first Bronco to score with a shot from under the basket. The Broncos continued to stay ahead, thanks to a Madison Barrus basket from beyond the arc that put B-K up 8-5. Beminio continued to do a great job on the court with five rebounds in the first quarter. Scoring continued as Beminio added another two points, giving the Broncos a big 21-9 lead to end the first period.

  In the second quarter a big rebound by Annika Nelson and a pass to Addison McMurray gave the Broncos two more points to make the score 26-11. The Broncos continued to play great defense with steals by Jennah Meyer and Ashlynn Willms. With the quarter coming to the end, Beminio collected her 13th rebound and had nine points as B-K led 30-16.

  As the second half got underway, Beminio was forced to the free throw line, going four for four and collected two more blocks. The Broncos led 40-27 as Nelson headed to the line, draining both of her free throws as the quarter came to an end.

  In the final quarter, the Broncos defense continued to be on top with steals by Barrus, Willms and Beminio. The Broncos had nine steals in the game. Nelson scored eight points on fast breaks in the second half, giving the Broncos an even bigger lead. As the game came to an end, McMurray added four points from under the basket. B-K took their first district win since 2002 by a score of 61-37.

  Leading scorers included Beminio with 19 and Nelson with 18. Beminio also had 19 rebounds and ten blocks, her first- ever triple double as a senior.
