The Belmond-Klemme girls had a great showing in a June 30 tournament at Gladbrook Reinbeck.

Pitcher Maddison Dougherty had a great performance in the game against the host team. The Broncos were the first to score. In the top of the second inning, Taylor Grissom reached first on a fielder’s choice. Dougherty laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved runner Kylie Krauss in scoring position. Krauss stole third before Molly Hartwig hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Krauss.

B-K continued the scoring in the fourth with a lead-off walk to Hartwig, followed by a single hit by Jennah Meyer. Addison McMurray loaded the bases, drawing a walk herself. A solid hit by Madi Barrus down the third base line scored two Broncos. Haley Beminio followed with her own hit down the third base line to score another Bronco as Allie Barrus and Ashlynn Willms each collected singles in the inning. B-K had a commanding 7-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth, Madi Barrus led off with a home run over the crowd at left field to push B-K’s lead to 8-0. Beminio reached second on a throwing error and stole third base before Allie Barrus would hit a double to right center field to score Beminio. Barrus came around to score when Hartwig tripled to right field. One pitch later, Meyer hit a single to score Hartwig from third as B-K jumped to a 12-0 lead. G-R scored a lone run in the sixth.

In the second game, the Broncos faced the Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons in a rematch from earlier in the season. The Falcons dominated B-K earlier, and B-K was ready for some payback.

Haley Beminio was starting pitcher. Big hits by the Falcons allowed A-P to take the early lead 1-0. B-K answered back with a lead-off single by Haley Beminio. Allie Barrus followed suit with a single before Ashlynn Willms singled to score Beminio and tie up the game. The Broncos gave up three runs in the second and were shut down in that inning as the Falcons jumped to a 4-1 lead.

A double play by shortstop Madi Barrus to second baseman Molly Hartwig and to Brynn Heideman at first base ended the Falcons’ shot at scoring late in the fourth. In the Broncos’ half of the inning, Taylor Grissom drew a walk and scored off a single by Molly Hartwig. Dougherty relieved Beminio on the mound in the sixth and holding the Falcons.

B-K scored in the sixth as Hartwig drew a walk which was followed by a walk to Jennah Meyer. Addison McMurray tied the game 4-4 with a triple.

Bemino drew a lead-off walk. Allie Barrus laid down a sacrifice bunt, but would beat the throw to first. Willms took her shot at a sacrifice, laying down a perfect bunt. The A-P pitcher tried to throw out the runner at third, but threw ball to left field, which allowed Bemino to score the winning run, 5-4.
