The Belmond-Klemme girls traveled to North Union Dec. 15 for a conference match-up.
The Warriors jumped to a 4-0 start as the NU defense gave the Broncos trouble early. A pass from Molly Hartwig to Ashlynn Willms, on the three point line kept B-K close, trailing 4-3. The Warriors went on a 11-2 run before Allie Barrus hit a three-pointer. The first period ended with the Broncos trailing 19-8.
In the second quarter, the Warriors continued to dominate, going up 25-8, before Willms was fouled and hit 1-2 from the free throw line. As the first half was coming to a close, Jennah Meyer claimed a rebound and two-point shot to give the Broncos their only basket. The Broncos fell behind 40-11 heading into the locker room.
Meyer started the third quarter heading to the free throw line and making 1-2. The Warrior offense would continue to put up big points, pushing ahead 43-12. Another three-pointer by Allie Barrus gave the Broncos a few more points, but NU stayed ahead 56-17.
In the fourth quarter, Madi Roberts collected four rebounds. Brooke Pralle scored her first points of the game, but those points would be the only ones scored by B-K in the quarter. The Broncos fell 68-19.
The Broncos finished the week hosting the North Iowa Bison Dec. 18.
The Broncos had a nice first quarter. Madi Barrus started the game with a two-point jumper, followed by Jennah Meyer driving to the lane, being fouled, and making both free throws. The Bronco defense was solid early as Vanessa Naranjo had a steal and pass to Ashlynn Willms for a layup. The Broncos were ahead 8-0. The defense had two more steals and layups by Madi Barrus and Addison McMurray and B-K led in the first quarter, 16-2.
In the second period, Molly Hartwig had two rebounds on defense and took the ball to the basket for another score. McMurray was hard to stop as back-to-back drives sent her to the free throw line, and the senior made 2-4. The Broncos stayed ahead 25-10. Hartwig ended the quarter with a defensive steal and drive to the basket as B-K led 29-11.
In the second half, Hartwig continued to dominate on the offensive side of the court hitting a three-pointer. A pass from McMurray to Allie Barrus on the three-point line put the Broncos ahead 37-13. A strong offense gave B-K their largest lead, 44-15, with McMurray scoring on a jump shot and Allie Barrus hitting another three-pointer. As the quarter was coming to an end, McMurray and Meyer each had back-to-back layups. B-K led 48-17 at the end of the quarter.
The tough Bronco defense did not allow any Bison points in the fourth quarter. McMurray and Hartwig kept up with their scoring streaks, adding five more points each, as the Broncos took the big win, 60-17.
