The Belmond-Klemme girls started the new year traveling to Forest City Jan. 4 for the first conference game of 2020.
Molly Hartwig and Haley Beminio were the first to score for the Broncos. The score went back and forth throughout the first quarter. Ashlynn Willms drained a three-pointer to put B-K ahead. Hartwig followed up with a steal and drive as B-K held the lead 13-12 after the first period.
The Indians went on a 13-2 run to start the second before Brooke Pralle added a two-point shot for the Broncos. B-K had its work cut out for them before heading into the half; Jennah Meyer was the only other player to score as FC had a 24-6 run in the second quarter. B-K trailed at the half, 38-21.
Meyer added four quick points as did Addison McMurray to cut FC’s lead to 45-29. The Bronco defense did a good job in the second half with steals by Meyer, Hartwig and Madi Barrus. Before the quarter ended, Barrus hit two free throws to make the score 55-33. Quick transitions by the Indians pushed their lead even bigger. Amara Kelley put herself on the board with a lay-up before the quarter ended, as B-K took the tough loss, 69-42.
