The Bronco girls traveled to Eagle Grove Dec. 8.

  The Eagles jumped to a 3-0 lead before Jennah Meyer drove the lane, was fouled, and hit one of her two free throws. Addison McMurray had a defensive rebound and took it the length of the court to tie the game 3-3. EG went on an eight-point run before Allie Barrus hit a three-pointer to make the score 11-6. The Eagles’ fast moving offense gave the home team a big 26-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

  As the second period got underway, Madison Barrus’ offensive rebound put the ball back up and she was fouled. Barrus made both free throws and the Broncos trailed 26-10. Meyer and Madison Barrus were each fouled again, and went 4-6 at the line. The Eagles headed to the locker room with the 37-16 lead.

  Molly Hartwig’s three-pointer started the second half, followed up by a jump shot by McMurray. The Eagles were held to only two points in the third as the quarter ended with the Broncos trailing 39-22.

  McMurray’s 11 points in the final quarter helped the Broncos and she hit a three-pointer late. Allie Barrus had the last points for the Broncos with a layup, as the Broncos fell 62-37.

  The Broncos hosted Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Dec. 11.

  Madison Barrus was the first to score for the Broncos, making the score 2-2. Molly Hartwig hit a three-pointer to give the Broncos the 5-2 lead. Tough defense by both sides made for an exciting first quarter as the Broncos led 7-6.

  A pass by McMurray to Madison Barrus under the hoop gave the Broncos their biggest lead, 9-6. The Broncos were not finished yet, as McMurray’s steal and jumper, followed by a McMurray pass to Allie Barrus for another layup made the score 13-9. The Cardinals pulled ahead late, 18-15, before Hartwig tied the game with a big three-pointer. The Cardinals went on a 10-4 run as the quarter wound down, and took the lead, 28-22.

  To start the second half, Madison Barrus’ jumper in the lane pulled the Broncos within four. GHV went on a 9-0 run before Barrus would hit two free throws. The Cardinals led 43-28 to end the third quarter.

  The final quarter had a lot of excitement with great offense by the Broncos. A Barrus-to-Hartwig pass under the basket gave B-K two fast points. Jennah Meyer scored quickly on an out-of-bounds play as the Broncos went on their own run. Madison Barrus had a five second call, giving the Broncos the ball back. McMurray took advantage of the mistake and scored on a layup. Meyer was fouled late, and made 1-2 at the free throw line, as the Broncos pulled within seven points. There wasn’t enough time left in the game, however, and B-K lost 50-43.
