The Belmond-Klemme boys put up a good fight against North Union Dec. 14, but ultimately lost 73-47 at home.
The Broncos scored early on an assist from Tyreon Franklin to Brian Duran under the basket with only a minute gone in the game. Franklin scored three times in the first quarter, and the Broncos only trailed 15-11 at the buzzer.
Baskets by Cooper Schleisman and Duran, along with two free throws by Bradan Gabrielson, tied the game at 17 points early in the second period. But the Warriors kept up their scoring attack, and led 31-26 at the break.
Brody Kern opened the B-K scoring with a three-point bucket after halftime. Bronco scoring came from Franklin, Gabrielson, Mitchell Fahrmann, and Nolan Krauss in the third, but NU always seemed to answer back. The Broncos trailed 54-40 at the end of the quarter.
The Warriors took over the game in the final period, outscoring B-K 19-7.
The boys lost to county rival Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Dec. 16.
The Cowboys, who were undefeated, raced out to a 34-4 lead at halftime. The scoring barrage continued in the second half, and the Broncos lost 63-17.
The boys travelled to Buffalo Center Dec. 17, still looking for a conference win. It was not to be found against North Iowa, losing 90-35.
B-K was behind 17-9 after the first eight minutes, and trailed 43-21 at the break. The Buffaloes outscored the Broncos 25-20 in the third quarter. B-K was only able to score three points in the final period.
