The Bronco boys played three tough opponents last week, starting off with the Central Springs Panthers June 10.

Both teams struggled to get runners on base as Caydon Christensen had an excellent start with six strike-outs in three innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, errors and a few Panther hits caused trouble as B-K gave up five runs. The Broncos added a run in the fifth as Easton Barrus led off with a walk and two stolen bases before Cole Nelson hit a deep sacrifice fly to bring Barrus home.

CS scored four runs to close out the sixth inning, making the score 9-1. Christensen hit a double over the fence in the seventh before Jaace Weidemann brought Christensen home on a single. But that was all the closer the Broncos would get, as B-K took the tough loss 9-2.

The team traveled to Principal Park in Des Moines for a conference game against Saint Ansgar June 12. This is the first time the team has had an opportunity to play in the “I-Cubs” stadium.

Cole Nelson took the mound and the sophomore would do his best against the top team in the Top of Iowa Conference. The Broncos had their first hit from Tucker Kroeze with a hit to centerfield. He was left stranded to end the first inning.

The Saints led off the game with a walk and single before two errors hurt the Broncos, allowing three Saints to cross the plate. Caydon Christensen singled in the top of the second, followed by Jordan Meyer. But both were left stranded. The Saints had four singles in the second and pushed across three more runs to make the score 6-0. The Saints brought in five more runs on four hits and two errors in the third as B-K struggled. Christensen had another hit in the fourth inning but was left stranded again.

Bk lost in five innings 11-0.

In the last game of the week, B-K hosted Nashua-Plainfield June 14. Easton Barrus took to the mound. The Huskies jumped on the board early with four hits combined with two errors by B-K. In the bottom of the first, Barrus led off with a single and two stolen bases. But he was left stranded.

The Broncos scored in the bottom of the second. Annika Nelson singled to start the inning, coming around to score on a single by Jaace Weidemann. Jordan Meyer reached base on an error, and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-2.

B-K put seven runs on the board in the next two innings with hits by Meyer, Tucker Kroeze, Cole Nelson, Jaace Weidemann and Mitch Hill. The Saints took advantage of two Bronco errors to start the sixth, pushing two more runs across the plate. The Broncos were unable to add any more runs as the Broncos took the loss 12-9.
