The Belmond-Klemme boys travelled to Algona Garrigan Jan. 12.
The Bears were the first to score, pulling ahead 2-0, before Kaleb Carlson headed to the free throw line and made 1-2. Carlson hit a jump shot in the lane to tie the ball game at 3-3. Garrigan went on a seven-point run before Jordan Meyer’s offensive rebound and basket brought the score to 10-5. The Broncos had a nice night rebounding with Carson Lane snagging four rebounds in the first quarter.
Lane started the second quarter with two points, followed by Triston Yoder collecting an offensive rebound and lay-up to bring the Broncos within three points. The Bears went on a 13-point run before Lane made two free throws to bring the score to 27-12. As the quarter was coming to an end, Carlson added another two points followed by his tenth rebound of the half. B-K trailed 27-14 heading into the locker room.
The Broncos came out strong with good defense and fast offensive scoring in the second half. Yoder and Carlson each scored early on. Carlson continued to have a nice game on the offensive side, scoring yet again to bring the score to 38-20. The Broncos used rebounding to their advantage, as Meyer went the length of the court, was fouled, and made both free throws. As the clock was ticking down, Lane added two more points to the scoreboard, but the Broncos still trailed 52-26.
B-K had a great night of defense, even though the score didn’t reflect it. Alex Bartz had a great drive to the basket, followed by Meyer scoring. A late steal and lay-up by Lane gave the Broncos motivation to finish the game strong. Juan Gomez scored for the first time of the night, followed by Bartz hitting a three-pointer. The game ended in a 68-47 loss.
