The Eagle Grove baseball team won three straight games and six of their last nine heading into the end of the regular season. The Eagles’ latest victim was neighboring Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The Cowboys were handed a 7-6 nine-inning loss at Eagle Grove.
Jake Jeske helped the cause against the Cowboys, going four for five with a double. Cayden Schultz was three for five, including smashing a triple that brought in four runs. Blake Morgan was the other multiple hitter, going two for five. Chris Williams and Nolan Krauss each had a base hit.
Morgan picked up the win on the hill, allowing one earned on one hit over four innings. He walked eight and had three strikeouts. Schultz pitched the rest of the game, allowing two earned on four hits. He walked five and had seven strikeouts.
Prior to that game, the Eagles hosted Southeast Valley and won 8-2.
The Eagles plated three scores in the first and four more in the second, and then played good defense to hold on. Blake Morgan and Jake Jeske had strong nights at the plate; Morgan went three for four with a double and two RBIs while Jeske was three for four with a double, triple and one RBI. Cayden Schultz, Brady Beck and Andrew Dencklau all pounded out two base hits a piece, with Schultz credited with two RBIs. Chris Williams batted in two runs and Beck one.
Jeske recorded the win, allowing no earned runs on a three-hitter over five innings. He walked two and issued 10 strikeouts. Jordan Morris pitched the other two frames, giving up no earned on two hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The Eagles faced Webster City in the first round of the Class 3A Substate 2 play July 16.
Cayden Schultz pitched well enough to hold the Lynx at bay early. However, the Eagle bats just never came around in a 10-0 loss. Chris Williams reached base after being hit by a pitch, but was the only Eagle to advance in the game.
