The Belmond-Klemme baseball team started off the season in conference play May 22 against the Warriors of North Union.
Caydon Christensen was on the mound for the Broncos. The Warriors scored two runs in the first inning. B-K answered back as Max Beminio led off, reaching first on an error and eventually coming around to score on a sacrifice bunt by Christensen.
The Warriors added another run in the fifth inning, before the Broncos added a run with a single by Cole Nelson that scored Mitchell Hill.
Devon Geiger, Juan Gomez and Jaden Warren all had a turn on the mound, but the Warriors were too much, scoring seven runs to make the score 9-2. The Broncos came up short in the final two innings as Broncos took their first loss of the season, 13-2.
Christensen, Nelson, Beminio and Juan Gomez all had hits, as Christensen collected nine strike-outs on the mound.
The Broncos continued conference play May 24, hosting the Golden Bears from Algona Garrigan. Rain on Garrigan field forced B-K to host the game.
Max Beminio led off the game with a single. Easton Barrus stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run homer over the left field fence to give the Broncos an early 2-0 lead.
Barrus took the mound, striking out four in two innings and giving up one run. Three more Golden Bear runs would cross the plate in the bottom of the third inning, pushing the AG lead to 4-2.
Beminio and Jaden Warren pitched in the fourth inning as B-K tried to shut down the scoring. The Golden Bears didn’t let that happen, scoring eight more runs to make the final tally 12-2.
Barrus, Annika Nelson and Beminio all had hits in the game. Barrus had five strike-outs on the mound.
