Ruth A. Fosnaugh, 96, a long time Klemme resident, died Dec. 7, 2019 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mt. Vernon, WA. Services will be held Jan. 8, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Reformed UCC in Klemme. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Klemme and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ruth Adalaide was born Oct. 2, 1923 to John and Anna Marie (Pahmiyer) Mannes on a farm near Vinje. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Luthern Church in Thompson. She started school in Thompson, graduating in 1941.
In the fall of 1942 she went to Algona and worked as a waitress at Dermand Café and Grodies Café. She met her future husband, James Fosnaugh. They were married on Jan. 15, 1945 after James returned from serving overseas with the Army Air Corps. They lived in Las Vegas until the end of WWII, then returned to Iowa.
In August 1959 they moved to Klemme. Ruth worked at First National Bank, which became the North Iowa State Bank, for 28 years. She then worked at the Klemme Recreation Club about ten years.
Ruth and Jim made many trips to the west coast to visit their son and family. They also visited the Badlands, Black Hills, and Minden, NE along with her sister Jean and husband Herb to see the sandhill cranes. At Christmas she and her sister enjoyed making chocolate candies of all kinds.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband (Nov. 11, 2011); step-son Matthew Terrill; brothers Alfred, Ernest and Irvin Mannes; sisters Judith Block, Alma Helland, Ester Koch and Doris Johnson; and half-sister Amiela Newberry.
Ruth is survived by her son David and wife Peg; granddaughters Kelli Jo (Kyle) Rosenbaum and Terri Jo (Wallace) Forslof; great-grandchildren Haily Hummel, Joshua Terrill and David Michael Forslof; step-great-grandson Koen Rosenbaum; step-great-great- grandson Lucas Rosenbaum; and sister Jean Pearson.
