Ruth Dorenkamp, 95, formerly of Clear Lake and Meservey, died Nov. 19, 2019 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Services were held Nov. 22 at Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond.
Ruth, the daughter of Will and Tisha (Frohling) Boelman, was born on the family farm in Pleasant Township, Wright County. She attended country schools in Wright County.
Ruth’s entire life revolved around church, family and visiting friends. She was a life-long home maker and also did some housekeeping work.
She married Lewis Lambert Dorenkamp on March 24, 1965. She was the bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business for many years. They built a home in Meservey in 1948 and resided there until moving to a home Lewis built in Clear Lake in 1978. Lewis died Jan. 1, 1993 and Ruth continued to live in their Clear Lake home before moving to Apple Valley Assisted Living and then the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Ruth spent a great amount of time, love and energy devoted to her daughter Linda. She was a great caregiver throughout her life, from the health decline of Lewis to daughter Linda. She enjoyed playing cards, visiting friends, family and shut-ins, a rare trip to the casino, volunteering at the Village Store, New Year’s Eve get-togethers with other couples, and playing in the Kitchen Klatter Band. She did some traveling to visit relatives with Lewis, and following his passing, had been to various destinations, with Hawaii and California among them.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Lewis; brothers Bud, Herman and Joyce Boelman; sisters Dorothy Abbas, Thada Kuhlers and Henrietta Baker; and step-daughter Charlotte Grosz.
Survivors include her brother Daryl Boelman; step-children Linda Dorenkamp of Ventura, Tom (Toni) Dorenkamp of Fremont, NE, and Jim (Terry) Dorenkamp of Thornton; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
