Rita Robbins, daughter of Lee and Deloris Arlene (Green) Robbins, was born April 23, 1955 at Belmond, the second oldest of six children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church at Goodell and attended Belmond Community Schools, graduating on May 17, 1973.

Rita married Thomas Edward Joseph Christians on May 19, 1973 at St. Francis Xavier. They made their home on an acreage near Klemme where Tom farmed for a time before starting a full-time career as a truck driver. The couple had children Clint, Nichole and Neil. The family eventually settled in Belmond where Rita relished the role of wife and mother while maintaining the family home.

Rita worked at Baumer’s Grill, Millie’s Restaurant and Tenold Chiropractic. She was then employed for 15 years with Belmond-Klemme Schools as an aide working with special needs kids. It was a perfect fit, as she cherished being around young people.

Rita’s family was foremost in her life. She proudly wore her titles as wife and life partner to Tom, loving mom to her kids, and doting grandma to her grandchildren. She enjoyed being with her siblings, their families, and her special friends. She looked forward to visiting and caring for her grandkids when their parents had other obligations, or hosting them with Grandpa Tom in their home. Rita was an upbeat lady who enjoyed simple pleasures in life. She was more interested in focusing on the needs of others rather than her own. If a family gathering included a meal, she would be sure to send home care packages of food.

Rita and Tom looked forward to getting together with other couples to play cards. They loved dancing at regional venues, cutting a rug in matching outfits, often taking their kids along. They taught country dance lessons over the years.

Those who had the privilege of crossing Rita’s life path will remember her boundless love for her family and friends, her captivating smile, her twinkling eyes, and for having a loving heart that was bigger than her being.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband and life partner of 48 years, Tom Christians of Belmond; son Clint (Andrea) Christians and their children Cale, Cooper, Caroline and Caitlyn of Pocahontas; daughter Nichole (Cody) Lunning and their daughter Abby of Garner; son Neil (Samantha) Christians and their children Emma and Emmett of Pocahantas; siblings Kenneth (René) Robbins of Belmond, Larry Robbins of Goodell, Dave (Linda) Robbins of Goodell, Dale (companion Michelle Weaver) Robbins of Clear Lake, and Rebecca (Rick) Munoz of Ottumwa; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws on Tom’s side.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law Clarence and Bonnie Christians; and grandson Joshua Christians.
