Nan P.

Mildred “Nan” Parker, 85, died July 14, 2019 at her home. Services were held July 20 at Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Nan was born in Fort Dodge on Jan. 4, 1934, the daughter of John and Mildred (Sheffield) Mitchell. Her childhood years were spent in Algona where she graduated from high school. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at age 13 and was baptized a few years later. She moved with her family to Sharon, MA.

She married Perley “Roy” Parker, Jr. and to that union two daughters were born. After Roy’s death, Nan moved back to Algona, then Belmond.

Nan’s faith and family were foremost in her life. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist where she taught Sunday School and helped with church functions. She instilled the importance of faith in her daughters and grandchildren. A fav- orite Sunday activity would include one-on-one time with a grandchild -- attending church, going out for a meal, then spending the rest of the day together. Nan cherished her grandchildren dearly, both those near and those far away.

Nan spent most of her life working in retail. She was employed as a clerk at Millie’s Hallmark and as a proofreader at the Belmond Independent.

Nan spent countless hours crocheting, knitting and reading. She collected Noah’s Arks and nutcrackers, and was a wonderful baker. Friends and family were special to her, but she also enjoyed the solitude of watching birds and riding her bicycle.

Those who knew her will reflect on the three F’s that made Nan a beautiful lady -- strong faith, boundless love of family, and fellowship with friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters Juanita Loss and Faye Bartlett; and brothers Richard and Charles Mitchell.

She is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Scott) Van Zyl of Omaha and their children Sarah (Denver) Sweazy, Amanda (Aaron) Patton, Joshua (Hannah) Van Zyl and Nathaniel (Alicia) Van Zyl; daughter Kristine (Herman) Vink of Belmond and their children Rachel (Ryan) Vogel, Jonathan Vink, Michelle (Timothy) Worley, Ashely Vink and Rebekah (Joshua) Nedved; great-grandchildren Connor, Nolan, Ryland, Adeline and Brennen Sweazy; Titus, Silas and Anastasia Patton; Lincoln and Mollie Van Zyl; Liam and Kaiya Van Zyl; Maddie, Ian and Dominic Vogel; Moriah and Juilanna Worley; brother Jon A.
