Max G. Christie, 68, Meservey, died, April 28, 2019 at Westview Care Center, Britt. A public graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, June 1 at Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme. A reception will follow at Mat’s Place in Garner from noon until 3 p.m. Casual attire is requested.
Max George, son of Charles George and Charlotte Hazel (Lewis) Christie, was born May 12, 1950 at Forest City. The family moved to the Klemme area where he attended school, graduating in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for a time in Germany. He spent part of his Army years in missile disassembly. Max was on active duty four years, then served in the Army National Guard, followed by the Seabees.
Max was married to Carol Vierkant from 1972-1980. He was married to Candace Kuester from 1982-2016. Max moved to Westview Care Center in January 2018.
Max was a hardworking man who excelled at whatever he did. He farmed with his brother Bill for a time, and was employed at Central Soya in Belmond for 15 years and at Stellar Industries in Garner for 10 years until his retirement at age 62.
He loved camping with his wife and kids, summer fishing excursions to northern Minnesota and Canada, and Sunday afternoons with his boys, and gathering at the family farm. He shared this passion for motorcycliny with friends and son Kyle. Max enjoyed working on classic cars, and had a rifle collection in his younger years. Other pastimes included woodworking, history, and baking chocolate chip cookies and an occasional pie. He helped raise the flags at Ell Township Cemetery.
Max will be remembered for his fun and playful wit, dry sense of humor, and always brewing up a trick or prank
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jesse; sister-in-law Judy Murphy; brothers-in-law Rod Brown and Jim Jan- ssen; and nephew Colin Murphy.
Max is survived by sons Kyle Christie of Klemme, and Cory (Kirsten) Kuester of Des Moines; brother Bill (Kris) Christie of Garner; former wife Candy Christie of Belmond; sisters-in-law Becky Janssen of Belmond, and Carrie (Steve) Gnerre of Naples, FL; brothers-in-law Dan (Cindy) Brown of Surprise, AZ, Russ (Belinda) Brown of Spokane, WA, and Bob Murphy of Dayton.
