Linda M. Kuhlers, 69, Belmond, died Feb. 11, 2021 at Iowa Specialty Hospital - Belmond, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services were held Feb. 15 at the Belmond United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jim Gochenouer officiating Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Olaf Lutheran Church or Gateway Hospice.
Linda Marie, daughter of Marion and and Hilda (Mehus) Lamfers, was born May 3, 1951 at the Belmond Hospital. She attended school in Kanawha, graduating in 1969. Linda continued her education at North Iowa Community College in Mason City.
Linda was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran and continued her life long membership and faith journey there. She married Marlin Kuhlers at St. Olaf in June 1972, and they were blessed with daughter Darcy. Their partnership, marriage and friendship lasted almost 50 years.
Linda worked for a short time at Mercy Hospital in Mason City as an EKG tech. She began her 42-year career as the drive-up teller at First State Bank in Belmond a week after her marriage.
Linda relished the roles of wife, mom and grandma. She looked forward to any opportunity to spend time with her daughter and grandkids, caring for and supporting them. She also appreciated get togethers with her siblings and their families and occasions with Marlin’s family. Linda was active with the ELCA Ladies Food Group at the church and was a longtime volunteer and ticket taker at the Lyric Theater. She was a terrific cook and baker. Her specialties included angel food cake, cinnamon rolls, kringla, tortilla wraps and her always-famous St. Olaf Punch. She loved to create crafts, arrange flowers, and do interior decorating.
Linda enjoyed travels with Marlin and other family and friends to Meskwaki Casino and other venues. Linda was a people person, and her gift of gab was perfect for her career and spilled over into all aspects of her life. Marlin said, “Linda never met a stranger.” She enjoyed breakfast with the ladies and Wednesday evenings dining out with Marlin and other couples. Linda loved the tunes of the 1950’s and 60’s and had been to the Buddy Holly Winter Dance Party at the Surf Ballroom numerous times. Linda had an extensive collection of angels and is now an angel watching over her family and friends. Linda enjoyed her ladies exercise group and was always up for an outing to get ice cream and other treats. She was proud of being Cook of the Week in 2015. In recent years Linda and Marlin looked forward to winter getaways to Mesa, AZ. She and Marlin were a great team in the last couple of years, looking after one another as they faced health concerns and she battled valiantly against cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew Rodney Lamfers; in-laws Alvin Kuhlers, Delphine Kuhlers and Herman Watermiller; and brother-in-law Fred Bell.
Her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of her life partner and husband Marlin of Belmond; daughter Darcy Kruger (significant other Kyle) of Lake Mills and her children Keaton Kruger of Minnetonka, MN, Dawson Kruger of Ames, and Jamison Wolff of Lake Mills; Linda’s “special daughter” Jackie (Chris) Gatton and her family Sydney, Alysha and Vinnie of Meservey; brothers Richard (Bernita) Lamfers of Grundy Center and Roger (Lois) Lamfers of Kanawha; sister Diana (John) O’Donnell of Clear Lake; brother-in-law Ronnie Kuhlers (significant other Shelly) of Belmond; and sister-in-law Pam Bell of Belmond.
