Larry Nolte

Larry E. Nolte, 68, Goodell, died Nov. 21, 2020 at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation. Services were held Nov. 28 at the Belmond United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Larry Eugene, the son of Virgil and Florence (Busick) Nolte, was born Nov. 17, 1952 in Belmond. He was baptized and confirmed at the Goodell United Methodist Church. He was active in FFA. He began school in Goodell, then graduated from Belmond High School in 1971. He married Evelyn Anderson on Feb. 4, 1978. The couple later divorced.

Larry was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed working the earth and raising livestock. He loved animals and had some unique creatures on the farm, such as peacocks and chinchillas. Larry enjoyed his garden, especially tomatoes. He planted seeds in his own unique way. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. A favorite memory was a bear hunting trip with friends and family. He loved going to dances in earlier years and was very good at polka. He would go to sale barns and often return with a calf or two. Larry was easy going, mild mannered, had a good sense of humor, and loved to be in the mix of a good conversation. His heart was as big as his being. His generosity sometimes was to a fault as he would give more than was necessary.

Larry spent many years taking care of his mother after his father died in 1973. They would attend church together, and if you saw one of them, the other was usually nearby. Following her passing in 2004, Larry continued to live on the farm until moving to Clarion in 2016.

Larry enjoyed being a grandpa, and his grandchildren reflect fondly on going to his farm and all the things to do there. He taught them to drive at early ages. He was a great neighbor and could be counted on in time of need. In later years Larry loved to relax on the front porch.

He was preceded in death by nephew Ryan Kuhlers; uncle Ben Nolte; and aunts Jennie Retleff and Vera Spade.

Larry is survived by his daughter Helen (Troy) Buckley and their children McKenna and Corbyn of Danville, IN; son Travis (Katie) Nolte and their children Kaylee, Cody, Caleb, Collin and Karlee of Goodell: son Chris (Kristin) Nolte and their children Hunter and Paisley of Goodell; sister Linda (Ron) Kuhlers of Meservey; nieces Beck (Mark) O’Neil and Melissa (Brian) Bonjour; and his former wife Evelyn of Goodell.
