Jose “Manuel” Benavides, 73, Goodell, died Nov. 4, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family after battling cancer for two and one-half years. Services will be Friday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at CC Vida Nueva Church (formerly Bethany Reformed) in Belmond, with Pastor Isai Guerrero officiating. Visitation will be at the church Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday from 10-11 a.m.
Manuel was born in El Salvador on July 2, 1947 to Jose Vasquez and Sotera Benavides. There he resided, married his current wife Betis, and had four children: Lorena, Yanira, Reina and Guadalupe. In 1996 Manuel moved to Goodell to join Betis and Lorena.
Manuel was an avid fisherman, gardener and outdoorsman. He loved when the winter months came; you could find him watching Animal Planet or Discovery channel.
Along with his hobbies outdoors, he centered his life on church and being a faithful servant of God. His church community knew they could lean on him in any time of need.
Manuel was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife Betis; father Jose; and daughters Lorena (Justin) Friedow, Yanira Ochoa, Reina (Jaimes) Claros, and Guadalupe Osorio; and grandchildren Ricardo, Ashley, Aiden, Andrea, Alejandra, Santiago and Jose.
For those unable to attend the funeral in person, it will be livestreamed on the Andrews Floral Facebook page; just like it.
