Joleen Ann Chiodo, 61, died July 11, 2019 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services were held July 17 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Des Moines. Memorials are suggested to Animal Lifeline of Iowa.

  Joleen was born Oct. 8, 1957 in Belmond to Leland and Beulah (Goll) Hummel. As a child she was active in 4-H, church activities, Garner Saddle Club, basketball, track, and horse shows. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Reformed UCC in Klemme. Joleen graduated from Klemme High School in 1976 where she received the Senior Vocal and Band Awards. She attended Iowa State University where she played in the band for two years.

  Joleen worked in a cap factory in Westminster, CO and Par Products in Klemme. She studied computer programming at DMACC. Later she taught computer classes where she met her husband, Ben Chiodo. They were married at Living History Farms. Joleen worked at Wells Fargo, retiring after 30 years.

  Joleen was known as “Sunshine” to her friends and family. Her group of close friends met at least once a month for many years. She enjoyed fishing trips with her husband, bird watching, hog roasts on the family farm, riding motorcycles around Denver, bowling, and spending time with her pets. Joleen was known for her cross stitch pictures and gifts, crochet blankets, cooking, and flower gardening. She loved German-Norwegian baked goods, Italian food and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

  Joleen was preceded in death by her mother.

  Left to celebrate her life are her husband Ben; children Bunny (Tim) Norton, Margo (Corey Hackett) Castillo, Lynn (Phil) Dedrick, and Dena (Kelly Storm) Chiodo; grandchildren Keirnan, Seighan and Caprial Norton, Amber and Danielle Castillo, Wraith Dedrick, Brial and Ben Chiodo, Trenton and Ariana Storm; father Leland Hummel; sister Diane (Curt) Stadtlander; niece Holly (Ronnie) Vickers; and nephew Andy (Aubrey) Stadtlander.
