Donna J. Toftey, 96, died Nov. 29, 2018, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond, with Pastor Jim Goch- enouer officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in the St. Olaf Cemetery west of Belmond.

  Donna was born to Lyman and Bessie Hanson on Sept. 17, 1922 at Corwith. She married Abner Toftey on Sept. 4, 1942. They lived on the family farm, near Kanawha, had their own plane, and was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol. She was a 4-H leader for over 25 years. In 1966 they moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ where they designed and built a home in 1969. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She was the chaperone for Miss Lake Havasu in the Miss Arizona pageant, and for Miss Iowa in the Miss America pageant. She was qualified to judge any Miss America pageant in Arizona. Donna was an active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu, and was honored with the Olive Leaf Award in recognition of significant volunteer service to the church. She moved to Belmond in the fall of 2001, rejoining St. Olaf Lutheran and becoming active there again.

  Donna had a zest for life and was active and passionate about all she did. She loved times spent with her family and grandchildren. She had a keen sense of place, captivating personality, and unique sense of wit. She much enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and the happenings of the moment.

  She was preceded in death by her husband Abner (January 1987); sister Iliene Hesley (1985); brothers Roy Hanson (1995) and Robert Hanson (2003); and her eldest son Craig (2017).

  Donna is survived by her sons and their families: Bruce, Cheryl and Gregg of Georgetown, TX and Brian, Beth, Levi and Race of Belmond.
