Darlene R. (Chapman) Tillman, 88, Belmond, died Nov. 3, 2020 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Graveside services were Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery near Rowan, with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating.
Darlene Ruth was born Jan. 22, 1932 to John and Naomi (Norris) Chapman on the family farm south of Belmond. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1950.
On April 18, 1953 she married Richard Tillman at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Goodell. They lived on an acreage near Rowan. To this union three sons were born: Richard Wayne, Randall Alan and Rory Lynn.
Darlene worked at Reineking Grocery, Rowan Lum-ber and Grain, Lansing Grocery in Rowan, and then Meredith Corp and Neodata in Clarion where she retired in 1994.
In her early years, Darlene taught Sunday school and Bible school, and was a Cub Scout leader. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Women.
Darlene enjoyed going to county and state fairs, especially when her family was showing livestock. She loved to garden and work in her flower beds. Her kitchen was open 24 hours a day, and she was always ready to make a meal whenever anyone stopped by. She loved having her family around for the holidays and at all times. She was very dedicated to them.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard; son Rory; siblings June Mellott and Mae Drury; and brothers-in-law Robert Drury and Leroy Berhow.
Darlene is survived by sons Randy Tillman of Belmond, and Richard Tillman of La Crosse, WI; grandson Andrew (Megan) Tillman of Kanawha; great-grandchildren Aubrey and Levi Tillman; and sister Lucille Berhow of Kanawha.
