Cliff Toft

   Clifford G. Toft, 88, died Oct. 8, 2022 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. A private family service will be held later. Memorials are suggested to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund. Cards may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 224, Belmond.

  Clifford Gene was born May 3, 1934 on a farm west of Belmond to Thomas and Blanche (Ulstad) Toft. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran. Cliff attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Belmond High School in 1953.

  Cliff farmed west of Belmond his whole life. He was known to hunt and fish and loved going to wild game feeds. Pie was his favorite dessert, and he would often eat his pie before the meal. The only pie he did not like was pecan.

  Cliff made annual trips to Branson, MO for many years. He enjoyed attending high school softball games. He loved visiting with people, often in their homes. He was known as the guy who walked the trail daily, but was always home in time to watch Gunsmoke.

  He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty (in childhood) and Doris (Lyle) Nuehring; brothers and sisters-in-law Thomas Toft, Jr. (Mary), Don (Marlys) Toft, Roger Toft and Robert Toft; and a niece.

  Cliff is survived by brothers Jerry (Dee) Toft of Urbandale and Everett (Judy) Toft of West Des Moines; sister-in-law Kay Toft of Goodyear, AZ; seven nieces; and twelve nephews.
