Carolyn, the first child of William and Janet Bolman of Holland, MI, was born Aug. 1, 1931. She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1949 and began working in bookkeeping at the Holland Furnace Company. On May 24, 1955 she married Melvin Voss, a recent graduate of Western Theological Seminary in Holland. They moved to Raritan, IL where Melvin was ordained and installed as the pastor of the Reformed Church. While there, sons Mark and Brian were born.

In 1960 they moved to Knoxville, IA to serve at First Reformed Church. In 1984 they moved to Belmond to serve at Bethany Reformed until 1997 when they retired.

Carolyn was truly a partner in Melvin’s ministry, directing the choir, teaching Sunday school, and being active in women’s ministry. She was involved in various Classis women’s work, and helped Melvin as she served as the Pleasant Prairie Classis Stated Clerk and Treasurer. She was also a great entertainer, having the Consistory over for an annual meal, and people over after church at night. For several years she served as counselor at Classis youth camps and as music director at vacation Bible school. She was active in community women’s organizations. She sang solos in church, even singing at her own wedding.
