Aileen was born June 23, 1933 to Burt and Henrietta (Pals) Kalkwarf and grew up on a farm east of Belmond. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1951.
Aileen met Alvin Lee Arthur at the roller rink at Lake Cornelia and they married on May 25, 1952. To this union, they were blessed with daughters Christy, Cathy and Carrie.
Aileen and Alvin were proud to have built two homes where they could raise their family. Aileen was a proud homemaker and talented seamstress, personally making many of the family’s clothes. They were passionate gardeners and canned all types of vegetables.
Aileen was hard-working and was employeed full time in the offices of assessor, recorder, and treasurer in the courthouse in Clarion. You may have found her in the basement working on microfiche. Here she made many long lasting friends.
Aileen and Al were entrepreneurial. They flipped homes and renovated a cabin on a lake in northern Minnesota. They spent as much time as possible “up north” fishing, relaxing and spending time with family and friends.
Aileen had many hobbies. She loved watching her grandkids play in local sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. One of her most fond pastimes was singing in the Choralaires choir where she was a member for nearly 30 years. She was also a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church and held office as a Jaycee-ette.
In retirement she had multiple coffee and bridge groups and enjoyed long walks around town.
Shopping, popcorn and family were the joys of her life. Her children and grandchildren were a treasure to her. Generosity of heart and humor were qualities she embodied and admired in others.
Aileen was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 2011; her parents; and sibling Joan Kalkwarf Harty.
She is survived by her children Christy (Jeff) Foreman of Maricopa, AZ, Cathy (Mark) Cramer of Clarion, and Carrie (Dave) Arthur Daniel of Wenatchee, WA; grandchildren Sarah (Michael) Chadwell of Okinawa, Japan, Jon (Shabnam) Drury of Alamo, CA, JT (Emily) Foreman of Maricopa, Marci (Trent) Cooper of Arden Hills, MN, Kelly (Marco) Abundo of San Francisco, CA, Brandon (Katie) Cramer of Clarion, Genna Daniel of Seattle, WA, and Gavin Daniel of Tempe, AZ; 14 great grandchildren; and her niece Melodie Harty of Oklahoma City, OK.
