Belmond’s west water tower will get a makeover later this year. May 15 the city council signed an agreement to have the inside of the 200,000 gallon tower cleaned and the outside painted.

  The exterior will get two coats of paint, and when finished, will look about the same as it does now. The total cost for the inside and outside work is $37,000.

  The council heard two reports on the swimming pool. Public Works Director Justin Fournier reported that seasonal repairs are finished and he has started filling the pool. “By the end of the week we can flip the switch and hope that everything works,” he stated.

  City Manager Cody Nicholas presented the council with a list of pool employees for the summer. He said he has raised base pay by 25 cents per hour. Jonah Christianson will be the pool manager, and Emma Smith will be the assistant manager. The head lifeguards will be Elizabeth Hinman and Aiden Friedow. Fourteen other lifeguard were approved, along with seven front desk workers.
