Nominations are now open for a variety of elected positions in local government. Eligible candidates may file nomination papers from now until Sept. 19. The election is Nov 5.
When voters go to the polls they will also have to make several decisions about the Belmond-Klemme schools. School board seats currently held by Sharon Barkema (District 1), Jackie Burk (District 3), Teresa Mosiman (District 5) and Jane Turner (District 2) are up for election. In addition, there will be a question about changing the school board from five district- specific seats and two at-large seats, to seven at-large seats.
In city government, the offices of mayor and two city council seats are up for election. The current mayor is Frank Beminio. The two council positions are now held by Ron Allen and Jose Alfaro.
Three spots are available on the hospital board of trustees. The positions are currently held by Brad Robson, Nancy Gabrielson and Tom Christianson.
One seat is up for election on the park board, and that post is currently held by Sharleen Sorum.
