It is no longer legal to park a vehicle on the grass in the front yard of your home. The Belmond City Council passed a new parking ordinance Monday night.
Vehicles can only be parked on a parking pad or driveway. The rule also applies to the side yard of a corner lot.
The ordinance states, “No person shall park... on the grass or unpaved area of a front yard, as well as the side yard of a corner lot, of residential property, unless such vehicle is parked on an improved driveway or parking pad.”
The only exception to the rule will be during a snow emergency when parking is prohibited on the street until the snow has been cleared away.
