The Community Summer Lunch program for children and youths in Belmond is operating this summer when the free lunch program is not open at the school. During the first four days in June, 328 meals were served.
The free lunches are provided at Trinity Lutheran Church from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All children ages 1-18 are able to eat free. The charge for adults is $3.50
The Community Summer Lunch program is sponsored by the churches of the area. Trinity Lutheran is providing the meeting space and kitchen. Additional support is coming through a Thrivent Action Team.
The school’s free meal program at Jacobson elementary is also for children and youths ages 1-18. It runs weekdays through Friday June 28, and will serve again from Monday, July 8 through Friday, August 9.
The lunches at Trinity will fill in the weekday gaps of July 1-5 (but not July 4), and August 12-16. School starts Friday, August 23.
