A Goodell man riding a bicycle on Highway 69 north of Belmond was struck by a pickup truck last Thursday, June 27, about 9:30 p.m.

  According to the Wright County Sheriff, Dwight Wessels, 63, was riding a bicycle south into Belmond. He was intoxicated and wearing dark clothing. Wessels was stuck by a pickup, thrown onto the shoulder, and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital in Belmond and then flown to Des Moines by helicopter.

  The truck left the scene, according to authorities, but parts were left behind. It is described as a 2008-2014 blue/black Ford F150 Platinum. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wright County Sheriff.
