The Richard O. Jacobson Foundation has offered up to $500,000 in additional funding for the Colts Corner Daycare project subject to a match from the Luick Memorial Trust.

Belmond City Manager Darrel Steven Carlyle told the city council Dec. 21 that the Luick Trust met last week to consider the offer, but had not yet announced a decision.

If the funding can be arranged, Carlyle said it is possible that the daycare center proposed for the old Ramsay Elementary School could open by next fall. An architect has already drafted a preliminary plan.

Funding in place so far includes $470,000 from the Jacobson Foundation, a $100,000 state Community Catalyst Grant, and a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant from the state.

If the maximum amount of new funding from the Luick Trust and Jacobson Foundation comes through, only an additional $300,000 would need to be raised by the community to bring the project to fruition, Carlyle said.
