Five bids to remodel the old Ramsay elementary school into a daycare center were opened Oct. 12. The architect’s estimate for the work was $2.5 million.
The apparent low bidder was Henkel Construction at $2.8 million. Other bids were $2.99 million, $3.17 million, $3.52 million, and $3.53 million.
A total of eight construction firms had expressed an interest in the job, but only five submitted bids.
Build a Better Belmond, the group that owns the building, will hold a meeting Oct. 13 to consider the low bid and decide how to move forward
Once the building is ready, the daycare will be operated by the non-profit group Colts Corner.
