The Belmond City Council held its final meeting with City Manager Darrel Steven Carlyle on Sept. 7. Carlyle has taken the job as Wright County Economic Development Director.
Councilman Jon Swenson conducted the meeting in the absence of Mayor Frank Beminio, who has been hospitalized following a stroke. Police Chief Rick McDaniel said the stroke affected Beminio’s speech, vision and balance, but he is improving. (Beminio was released from the hospital Sept. 13.)
The council voted 3-2 to hire a consulting firm to fill in for Carlyle for a few weeks until a new city manager can be found. The firm will be paid the same rate as Carlyle’s salary — $3,036 every two weeks. The consultant from the firm will work at least eight hours per week and be available by telephone at all times.
