Grants to 33 projects totaling $46,600 were distributed June 20 in Clarion by the Wright County Charitable Foundation. Since the first granting period in 2006, the WCCF has handed out $1,206,924 to worthy causes.

  The WCCF Grant Committee and the WCCF Youth Leadership Committee separately reviewed each application. After independently making their recommendations, all grants received final approval by the full WCCF Board of Directors.   

  There are two grant award cycles each year: spring and fall.

  The grants included:

  Belmond Area Arts Council: $1,800 for a steel canopy

  Belmond Historical Society: $400 for two computers

  Belmond Dog Park: $200 for dog water fountain

  B-K Outdoor Classroom: $1,100 for indoor bathroom

  TLC Preschool: $300 for supplies and activities

  Belmond July 4: $1,500 for fireworks

  Belmond Promotion Council: $400 for Autumn Family Fun Festival

  Belmond Park Board: $1,200 for garden renovation

  Rowan Public Library: $1,000 for LED lighting

  Dows Rural Fire: $1,300 for cascade system

  Dows Lions: $800 for flag replacement

  Dows Senior Citizens: $1,400 for building repair

  Dows Commercial Club: $1,500 for Main Street lights

  Upper Des Moines Opportunity: $800 for school supplies

  Iowa Project Aware: $1,000 for river improvement

  Wright County Building and Grounds: $500 for key boxes

  Wright County Economic Development: $1,300 for retail snapshot program

  Wright County Fair: $800 for schoolhouse preservation

  Food Bank of Iowa: $3,200 for food assistance

  Domestic Sexual Assault Center: $2,350 for renovations

  Wright County Extension: $1,100 for Safety Day Camp

  YMCA Des Moines: $300 for Wright County Girls on the Go

  C-G-D Alternative High School: $400 for breakfasts 

  Clarion Ambulance: $1,900 for digital radios

  Clarion Foundation for Community Improvement: $5,350 for mural

  Clarion Hospital: $1,300 for procedure chair

  Crossroads Youth Center: $1,500 for garage door and roof

  Chick’s Women’s Ministry: $1,000 for fall youth retreat

  Renwick Ambulance: $2,600 for upgrades

  Eagle Grove Music Boosters: $1,600 for lights and speakers 

  Rotary Senior Living: $2,900 for therapy pool

  Eagle Grove Rotary Club: $1,300 for front door

  Izaak Walton League: $2,500 for siding

  The Youth Leadership Committee includes: Britney Duran, Gustavo Suarez and Jonah Christianson of Belmond: Sam Johnson, Katie Habermon and Cole Lindeman of Clarion; and Nick Halverson, Brittney Osborn and Carlos Figueroa of Eagle Grove.

  The WCCF Board of Directors includes: Lennea Groom (president), Bob Powers, Todd Buseman, Missy Niederhauser, Jan Grandgeorge, Theresa Martin, Berne Ketchum, Mikyla Hefti, Jeanne Russell and Alyce Seaba. Endowment building is handled by Duane Asbe.
