The board of the Belmond Area Arts Council has voted 4-3 to cancel the Prairie Homestead Antique Power Show scheduled for August 2020. In addition, the Kite Day planned for July 18 at Jenison-Meacham Art Center has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis.
An official noted that the decision was a very difficult one. Trying to achieve social distancing, clean restrooms, and proper food handling to prevent disease transmission were just some of many concerns.
The 50th annual Albert City Threshermen Show has also been cancelled. “This was a very tough call to make, but we must have the health and safety of our Threshermen Family at the highest priority,” organizers stated.
The Old Threshers Reunion held each year since 1950 in Mount Pleasant has also been called off for 2020. An official statement was released. “The Reunion has been faced with guidelines for six-foot social distancing, protocols for sanitizing and cleaning, greater financial implications for the Association, and the loss of key volunteers, coordinators and some of our civic groups. In addition, we have considered the overall health and safety of our entire Old Threshers family, the Mount Pleasant community, residents of Henry County and all surrounding counties. Indeed, the health implications of holding the Reunion could have a far-reaching impact.”
