The first church service of 2020 at the Alexander Community United Methodist Church was also the last one in the life of the church. The building was deconsecrated and the congregation disbanded Jan. 5 in a service presided over by the district superintendent of the Iowa Conference of the Methodist Church.

  The commemorative service “to celebrate and remember the ministry” brought over 50 worshipers to the small church. The service included several nods to church history – the call to worship was written for the centennial service, while the morning prayer was written for the dedication service.
