A number of law enforcement agencies executed search warrants and arrested two Belmond men and seized their personal property on June 11. The search warrants were the result of an investigation into alleged criminal activity in connection with the Sons of Silence motorcycle club.

   In total, five men were arrested and charged with criminal gang participation, a class “D” felony, which could result in five years of prison time.

   It is alleged by authorities that the five men harassed and threatened to assault an off-duty police officer and his wife who were riding a motorcycle on Highway 3. The incident occurred April 5 at the Casey's in Clarion.

   The men arrested include Anthony Kelley, 37, Belmond; Daniel Carolus, 43, Belmond; Justin Carlson, 37, Sheffield; Chad Simmons, 41, Latimer; and Cory Woods, 41, Waverly. All five were taken to jail and eventually released.

   Participating agencies included the Clarion Police, Wright County Sheriff, Belmond Police, Waterloo Police, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, FBI OM WRA, Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force, Waverly Police, Franklin County Sheriff, Mid Iowa Task Force, Iowa DNE, NICNTF and Algona Police.
